Founded in 1960, Fujian Metrology Institute (FMI) is subordinated to Fujian Provincial Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision(FBQTS) and authorized by China General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine(AQSIQ). Its main duty is establishing reference measurement standards for public service, organizing the dissemination of the values of quantities, performing the metrological verification, calibration and testing service in Fujian province, and providing technical assurance for enforcement of the law on Metrology. The certificates of verification, calibration and testing are of justness and authority, their values of quantities can be disseminated to the national primary standards.
There are now 223 employees in this institute. Among them, 5 persons are professorate senior engineers, 50 persons are senior engineers, professional technical personnel accounts for 70.2% of all employees. The institute sets up 2 national centers. They are the National Center for Urban Energy Measurement£¨Fujian£© and the National Supervision and Inspection Center for Steam Flow Meter. FMI sets up 8 laboratories including the Length Department, the Thermo Engineering Department, the Mechanics Department, the Electricity Department, the Chemistry Department, the Medicine Department, the Flow Department and the Force Measurement Department. The institute owns more than 3000 various specialized instruments and equipments, and 12370 square meters of working housing. It has established 182 items of public standards of measurement totally which are examined by AQSIQ and FBQTS. 235 items of calibration and 31 items of testing have been approved by CNAS (China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment). 305 items of verification, 269 items of calibration and 5 items of testing (quantitative packaging) have been authorized by national legal metrological verification institute.
By the end of 2009, the institute has accomplished 48 scientific research items with national or provincial level. Among them, 14 items have won the prizes with provincial level. FMI has also maintained sound cooperative relations with other metrology institutes from France, Great Britain, Taiwan (as Chinese Taipei), etc. Bilateral cooperation activities such as the international metrological comparison and other technical exchanges are more and more prosperous.
Nowadays, Fujian Metrology Institute is thoroughly promoting the developments of two national centers, providing metrological guarantee for high energy-consumption enterprises and contributing for the country¡¯s economy development.
